Bikur cholim, caring for the the sick, is a sacred Jewish tradition and obligation. B’nai Torah brings together many resources to support those who are facing illness.
We are not always aware of illnesses in the community. We ask that you please let us know if you, or someone you care for, is in need of healing and support. This information will be kept in confidence if you desire.
Several times a week, as part of our service, we offer a misheberach prayer, a prayer for those in need of healing. Customarily, the Hebrew names of the patient, and of his/her mother, are used, but an English name may be substituted. This prayer may be recited for someone of any faith. You may notify us in advance to add to our prayer list, or come to services and recite the name aloud.
If appropriate our, rabbis or the volunteers from our Kesher committee will visit or call a patient in a hospital, other facility, or at their home. We may also be able to provide meals and medical transportation.
Our rabbis can offer many spiritual resources for those facing illness. Click here to read Prayers for Healing.
